I started my love for soccer at the age of four in a small neighborhood soccer league where my mother acted as referee coordinator. My parents have always encouraged me to follow my heart and although they offered me many opportunities to try other sports, my heart always took me back to soccer. I grew as a player in this recreational league where one of my coaches wanted to take me to a competitive program at the age of 10. The tryouts were the day of my oldest sister’s graduation and family comes first. I learned then to stay humble and my day would come. What followed was 5 consecutive Championships and my time to move to competitive.
At the age of 12, I made the move to a competitive league. It was here that I learned to be one small part of a larger unit. Although I had played for many years at the recreational level, coaches focused on the strongest players and all others played to them. I also learned to be flexible and to play to the teams need. This made me a very versatile player who can be placed in any position. Although my primary position is Center Midfield, I was placed as a Center Back late in the season where I learned to be a leader and improved my ability to read the field of play tremendously.
As I have grown in the sport, I have also grown academically. I have been careful to maintain an appropriate GPA and work diligently to increase that score. I believe that my involvement in Soccer has taught me strategies to focus my efforts in school and to minimize the effects of my Central Auditory Disorder. I strive to maintain a balance between sports and school and look forward to continuing my education as a Collegiate Student Athlete upon graduation.
