Hi, my name is Axel Funk, I am currently attending Darlington High School in Rome GA, where I am a part of the varsity soccer academy. My goal in life is to succeed in whatever I do and ensure that I am enjoying it. My main focuses in life is obtaining a college degree and playing D1 Soccer at the college level. With a rich history of collage degrees in my family, I also want to join them in the group of degrees. I would like to major in Law, Finance or accounting, with a minor in economics. My sisters both have degrees, one with a masters in accounting and the other in biology, who is currently studying Veterinary medicine. Along with my father who is a qualified professional accountant. A solid education is a huge factor in my family and I am determined to achieve the highest level of education I can while in college.
With regards to soccer, I have been playing soccer since i was 3 years old, first starting at the club level and by the age of 13, I began playing at the national level for my U15 National Team. I played 3 years at the U15 level, traveling to many major international tournaments, such as the CONCACAF Championship in 2016 and regional international tournaments within the Caribbean. I was moved up to the U17 National team at the age of 16 and have also travelled again to many major international tournaments. In my years of playing at the international level I have represented my country 28 times, with 7 goals and 16 assists. Playing opponents such as the USA, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Guatemala and Puerto Rico to list a few, all at the U15 and U17 level.
With all my accumulated experience at the highest level of Soccer possible at the U15 and U17 level, I believe that I have gathered valuable skills because of my experiences that can benefit me at the college level. While playing for the national team, I have been exposed to press interviews, speeches and public announcements. As an athlete and a representative of my country I have learnt how to act and prepare for these types of encounters. I have leant how to speak properly, present myself in well-mannered fashion and how to answer difficult questions. Along with these, I have learnt leadership and time management. Being part of a team, I have always been a leader, not only on the field but off the field. I also have my CONCACAF coaching D License which has not only enabled me to coach and run sessions, but understand them from a coaches standpoint when I am playing, and has helped me better myself as a player. As for time management, traveling can be challenging while I still in school, I have been able to adapt myself to this lifestyle. I have learnt how and when do to work and when to train, to get ahead on work before the trip and set aside time to catch up on work while still maintaining a high level of soccer.
I do believe that I can have a positive impact on any team, I am always looking to learn and better myself on and off the pitch!
