My passion for soccer started in first grade. I played rec league soccer both fall and spring through my third grade year. Although I was recruited to play travel soccer in third grade, I declined as I also had a love for other sports. I played basketball, soccer, football and achieved my first degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do. I was not ready to commit to playing only soccer at that time. However, by the end of my fifth grade year, I realized soccer was the sport I loved and made the decision to play travel my sixth grade year. I knew that starting travel at that age would not be easy and it would require some extra training time to catch up to the skill level of kids that have been playing travel most of their lives. With my personal drive to get better, I began putting in time on my own doing wall work in my basement before school. My personal training in the basement helped me go from a sub to a full-time starter that never left the field in a short time. I evolved into a team leader and captain. By the end of my second year in travel, I realized I needed more of a challenge and switched to a more competitive soccer club, known as Eclipse Select. This was a big decision because I had many neighborhood friends on my team. I grew up playing with them and developed a strong bond with them, but I just knew I needed more as a soccer player. Going to a more competitive club helped tremendously this past year as I played for my high school freshmen team and earned the title of team captain. Through soccer, I have learned how to work as a team and how to communicate well with others. Other than enhancing my people skills and my ability to work well with others, soccer has brought out a sense of leadership and personal drive to my persona that has helped me excel in all areas of my life.
In the end, soccer has become a huge part of my life and changed my work ethic immensely in every part of my life. I’m truly devoted to playing for a college program while getting a great education. I think that I would be a great fit for any program.
