I love the game of soccer. I want to continue my journey, ready to play at the next level. I know I can contribute to any competitive team and impact the game with my work rate, attitude, skills, and vision. The single greatest message to me from several of my coaches is that I have the ability to raise the level of my entire team's play. When I step up my game, my intensity, my energy, my teammates follow. In addition, my impact on the game is consistent. I've seen guys many times who play great in one out of every five games, while I consistently impact every single game I play in. I always strive to be the best player on the field at any given time and know my coaches depend on me to do just that. The greatest compliment is when my coach needs something done on the field and he looks to me every time.
One of the most motivational moments in my life was going on a losing streak over the duration of my most recent high school season. We started off the season so strong, having a 5-0-0 record and leading the conference. The whole team had an eye on that state trophy and knew we'd have a concrete shot at taking that hardware home. All of a sudden, we started to crumble. Every pass, every shot, every tackle began to lose the technique and passion it once had. Mentally, the team got ahead of itself, distancing our focus far from reality. Next thing we knew, we went on to lose our next several games. Men to my right, men to my left, dropped their heads in defeat and if I'm being honest, I didn't have much hope in the tank either.
Playoffs neared and the team began to click once again. Our chemistry flowed and we started to work for each other instead of ourselves. We knew if we failed, we were letting others down in the process. Playoffs hit hard, but we hit harder. We were flying through the games, winning regionals and making it to super-sectionals. Although we had more chances than the opposition, we ended up losing that game. Some may say our season was cut short, but through the ups and downs as well as the hardships, I was able to learn some very valuable lessons and meet some very powerful people in the process. In the end, it is safe to say that giving up is never the answer and that success is never given out but rather earned by ones who give their 110%.
