Personal Statement

Hello! My name is Joey Vehovsky and I’m hoping to earn an opportunity to become a distinctive contributor to your soccer program, an accomplished student at your university, and a respected member of your collegiate community. Soccer has always been a big part of my life and it’s long been my dream to play at the collegiate level. As a first generation American with parents who immigrated from Slovakia, my father played D1 soccer and has helped me develop traits and a work ethic to prepare me for playing at the next level.

From on the pitch to off the pitch, I am a hard worker and take personal pride in doing my best with everything I do. As a student athlete, I recognize the importance of academic achievement and have worked hard to maintain a 3.9 cumulative GPA through my junior year at a competitive college prep academy while training and playing competitively year around. As a junior, I was named captain of the Varsity and helped lead my team to an undefeated season in conference play. I’m natural competitor and have been a multi-sport athlete playing midfield in lacrosse, QB in junior high football, and point guard in basketball from 3rd grade all the way through my sophomore year.

On the field, I’m a creative playmaker and find opportunities to win 1:1 battles to open up the field. I’m primarily an attacking midfielder with strong defensive discipline and am comfortable playing with both feet. I’m a very versatile player and have experience playing center back, right back, center forward and right wing. I’m a natural leader and have been captain of many teams over the years using my on and off field communication skills to bring the team together.  No matter the score, no matter my personal performance, I will always be going my hardest into 50/50 balls and bringing an energy to the field that no one else brings.

I’m determined to play soccer collegiately and I look forward to giving you a chance to better evaluate me as both a person and a player. Thank you reviewing my profile and I hope to hear from you soon.

Regards,

Joey Vehovsky
