Personal Statement
My name is Justyn Ramroop. I am 18 years old and in my second year at 6th Form College (last year of A Levels) where I am studying BTEC sports. I am working at DDM (Distinction, Distinction, Merit). For the last 2 years, I have been fascinated about American soccer and have been thinking of going to college/university in America to study and play soccer or football as we call it in the UK. My aim is to go on to play in a Major League Soccer team and also to earn a degree in sports business studies.
I started playing English football when I was 7. I played for our local club where my dad was our coach/manager. For 2 years (between ages 7-9) I played as goalkeeper, then when we went to 9 a side, I started playing in defence. I play with both feet, so I can play in various positions around the pitch. I also played for our school team all my years at Primary school and in high school. Currently, I play for Sandbach United Football Club (SUFC). I am also still playing for my school team where we compete against other schools in our county.
As part of the team at Sandbach United, we have played in various leagues and won trophies including the Cheshire County Cup. Last year we played in the Northwest Youth Alliance league playing up a year. The teams in this league included professional teams like Tranmere Rovers, Blackpool and other North west English clubs.
Because of my ability to play with both feet, I am often asked to play in various positions primarily in defence or defensive midfield. I am 5ft 10in so my height gives me a good advantage for winning headers. Football training is twice a week currently and I do strength training in the gym most days. I believe I will be a very good candidate for any soccer teams and colleges in the US as I am committed to working and training hard, a positive and encouraging team player and a dedicated student. As part of my last year at my school, I have been given the captaincy role my by coach to run the team lineups, availability for training/games and over all showing leadership skills to the team and especially the younger players in the team and being a role model player for them to look up to. I believe I would be suitable for playing college in the US as I am a hard worker, determined and consistently motivating myself and others to push on and do better.
I am also a qualified football referee and have been refereeing youth football since 2019. From this I have learnt to treat others with respect, but also discipline myself, be organised and have a greater understanding from a different perspective. Football has taught me to play with encouragement and positivity. I have developed many traits that transfer to my academic side such as always wanting to do better. A big thing for me personally is that I am constantly looking for ways to improve and learn from past mistakes so I can overcome them in future and become better than the last time. It has brought out a competitive mindset that I have taken onboard to stride onwards to become the best version of myself.
