Personal Statement
Grit is responsible for my passion and persistence on the soccer field. I played soccer during my years at elementary and high school, and for the Roaring Lions FC club team at the Anguilla Football Association. As a defensive midfielder, grit played an important role in how well I played at every game. Every time I walked on to that soccer field, I said to myself, “The only way I can become a better soccer player is through persistence, and by not allowing the distractions around me get in the way of achieving my ultimate goal – to win and win big.” My love for football was at its highest peak when I was selected to represent my country at Nationals. Wearing the colors of my country gave me a sense of pride, responsibility, and maturity. It was then when I confirmed that grit and I worked very well together. Playing against Haiti, Suriname, St. Martin, Puerto Rico and so many more opponents made me realize that it takes grit and more grit to play at the highest level of this game. I have used that realization as my motivation, as it is about having that stamina and diligence needed to succeed on the field.
