Personal Statement
I have been playing soccer since the age of 5 and I can't imagine my life without it.
I unfortunately lost my mother at the age of 8, which left me heavily reliant on my father. I turned to what could cheer me up, and that was soccer. From an early age my father knew that I had a burning passion to pursue this sport. Day in and day out, I would be in my backyard just kicking the ball against the wall. Simulating real game scenarios just like the pros. It was time to make a jump.
I started off with joining a local academy (BSL) with many other international kids. Through this academy I played many positions including goalkeeper, midfielder, and striker. I learned the skill of being flexible. With many games and tournaments played, with many friends made, and much experience gained, I had departed with BSL.
For the first time in my life, I had transitioned to a Thai Academy. At first it had been difficult to communicate as I was shy and considered a foreigner (even though I’m half thai). However, I did not let it stop me from trying to communicate. From what turned into initial laughter from teammates turned into sudden disbelief. I was bold, confident, and dominant on the field. Weeks passed by and I had earned respect from many of my teammates and there was no more bickering. I had played so well that I played three years up for my U15 team in the Thai Youth League. However, since I was playing three years up it was difficult to gain playing time as my whole team was competing for minutes. I have nothing but respect for this academy as I have gained knowledge and valuable assets such as confidence, leadership and multilingual skills.
My biggest athletic achievement was making it into Buriram FDP. It is Buriram United’s second youth team. Everything was amazing about this academy. The elite coaching, facilities, and teammates had all made me the player I am today. Once again, it was a Thai Academy however, this time I didn’t feel shy or nervous. I was honored and confident to play among my teammates. I had made lifelong friends that had similar goals to me: playing college soccer at the D1 level. Some of my friends have already moved to the states to pursue their dreams. This shared desire amongst my peers motivates me even further to pursue college soccer while still challenging myself academically off the field.
I am currently a junior at the time of writing this. I am the captain of my Varsity Soccer Team, hold a 4.59 GPA, and truly aspire to continue my athletic and academic journey at whatever institution chooses me. Throughout my whole soccer journey, I have discovered my skills of communication, leadership, and determination. I am beyond grateful for my father always supporting my goals and making me not only the athlete, but the person I am today. My work ethic and soft skills were all from him. My dream is to earn a full ride and ensure my father doesn’t have to pay a single penny for college. I am beyond grateful for everything he’s done for me.
