Personal Statement
Hello, my name is Mario Méndez and I’m a 2026 midfielder from Barcelona, Spain. I currently play for the American School of Barcelona in the Second Division Juvenil. I wear number 15.
Academics are very important for me and I have always been getting good grades. I’m used to being on the honor list. I especially enjoy science-related subjects, being math one of my favorite subjects. Even though I also enjoy business and history classes. It will be great to study some careers that could combine all or some of them.
I play as a midfielder and consider myself a very talented and creative player with the ball. I also really work without the ball, those defensive transitions where concentration is key to find the perfect moment to steal back the ball. I think I stand out dribbling in small spaces and filtering good passes. I am a very competitive player who always puts the team before myself. I really value good sportsmanship and consider myself a team player.
Soccer has always been a fundamental pillar of my life. I started playing when I was 3 years old and throughout those years until now I played various positions such as Goalkeeper, defender, midfielder, and even winger on some occasions. For me soccer is an escape from a bad day, it is when for that period I don’t have to think about my problems and I can enjoy playing it. Soccer has definitely kept me motivated and has contributed to who I am today. I’ve also made good relationships with people who I consider close friends. I believe that with sports, mixing passion with others is where you find those unique friendships. Soccer has taught me a very important lesson, take your chances whenever you can, and take always that shot you might think is impossible because if you don’t try it you will never know if it would’ve gone in. Usually, that metaphor I can relate to my life, when sometimes I have to take risks to achieve what I want.
Through college athletics, I desire to play at a high level, compete every day, make a significant difference on and off the field, and earn a college degree. After earning a degree in some science or engineering career, I would like to pursue work combining my soccer passion with my degree.
Please, don’t hesitate to contact me if you think you need any more information. I will be glad to give you any more information you may consider useful.
Thanks in advance for the time taken to go through my profile.
