Personal Statement
My name is Joshua Chebesi. I am an international student with hopes of becoming a student athlete in America. My goals at college would be to attain a degree in the business or accounting department as well as playing football at a high level and standard where I would improve to reach my full potential on off the pitch every day. I aim to create a new lifestyle and make new friends as I am used to the transition of adapting to a new and country as I have been through that process before in the past. I am a very sociable person and I can hold a conversation with anybody at ease and I feel that I will fit in quite easily. I have been looking to into studying in America for some time and I believe NCSA would help boost my profile and guide me in finding the right university most suitable for me. I would be a good addition to not only just a soccer program but to the academic side of things as I am determined to expand my knowledge as I believe knowledge is power and unlocks all the doors in life. It has been a dream for me to live the 'American Dream'. I am a very fast learner which helps me adapt to new things and if I put my mind towards something I believe I will be able to achieve it.
I play at decent level for a semi-professional club called Grays Athletic where I play for their reserves. I have featured for their first team a few times which was a good experience playing men’s football at that type of level which will helped me work on my physically and athleticism as it a step up from plating varsity team soccer and u18 and any other youth level. As a goalkeeper whether I am the captain or not I take it as my responsibility to give my team instructions and to make sure the shape is good and tell them if there’s any danger. Over the years I have improved vocally communicating with my players which has also helped me improve overall game as it helps me stay alert and focused throughout the game and take charge which helps my leadership skills in day to day life.
In terms of the academic side I have always managed to maintain good grades each year right from a young age with Maths being one of my strongest subject. That doesn’t just make me an athlete that makes me a student athlete which makes me the right candidate for to play in college and the right candidate for me to attend your college. I believe I will make it far in any university I attend as simply because I am both talented in my academics and soccer. Throughout my soccer I have developed and learned a lot helping my social skills, resilience and maturity and I stay motivated no matter what I do and in any environment I am in.
