Personal Statement
Hi Coaches! My name is Juan José Echeverry, and I am a 6'3 Goalkeeper from the graduating class of 2022 at Colegio Bolivar in Colombia.
I am currently the goalkeeper of Deportivo Cali's U20 soccer team, the best soccer program in Colombia, and have trained with Deportivo Cali's U23. Deportivo Cali is internationally known to have the best soccer program in Colombia and one of the top in Latin America. This year we are competing in the Difutbol U20 National Tournament.
Also, I am the starting goalkeeper on the varsity team at my high school, leading my team to a national final in the Juegos Binacionales 2019 and a state-level championship in Liga Rio Pance.
In the past, I've competed with Real Academia de Yumbo, a semi-professional team. I started every game in the Difutbol U17 National Tournament, playing against top academies from professional teams in Colombia. I've also started in the Torneo Internacional de las Americas, in the U17 category, where I recorded a shutout in the RO16.
My biggest strengths as a goalkeeper are my leadership in and out of the field, shot-stopping, and distribution. I am ready to play Division 1 soccer because I have always played under the age group at the highest level in Colombia. I'm eager to go to America since I know how much every university values the academic development of every student-athlete while presenting a one-in-a-life-time opportunity to chase their athletic dreams.
I finished my junior year with an unweighted GPA of 3.825, and I scored 1280 on the SAT. I am taking PreAP/ AP classes to prepare for college. In my Junior year, I took Pre AP Pre Calculus, AP Physics 1, AP English Language, and Pre AP Biology. And in my senior year, I am taking AP Calculus, AP Physics II, AP Statistics, and AP Literature.
