Personal Statement
Football has been my passion for as long as I can remember. The sport has brought me many happy memories, also bad ones. However, instead of dwelling on the losses, they have helped to build character and I believe have shaped me into a better, stronger and more resilient player.
As for the football player I am, it starts with my attitude towards the game. I will always give a 100% for my team, even when the game gets tough, my work ethic is amazing. My skills off the ball include great communication, excellent leadership/role model and I believe I am a fantastic team player. On the ball, my best attributes include strong hold up play, the ability to play one touch and being able to find the back of the net.
Off the field, as a student I work hard in and out of the classroom. My school journey has changed massively when I transitioned from GCSE to A Level as that was when I realised what I wanted to pursue a career in. I researched which subjects would be needed for university that would help me get on to Criminology/Criminal Justice and found that studying Psychology would be a great advantage, this is not a subject I took at GCSE level, so I have had to really work hard to ensure I grasp an understanding of the topics to help me to get a high grade at the end of the course.
I currently live in the UAE, and you are not allowed to work on your resident’s visa until you are 18 years old which has made getting a part time job very difficult, so to help get some experience I have been volunteering. My volunteer job involves coaching 4–7-year-olds at athletics. I undertake this twice a week after school and I believe this job has improved my confidence of teaching and running sessions to younger people. I have had many experiences of coaching younger people, such as when I gained my Leadership Level 1 badge, then also being asked to be a Sports Captain at my current school. and taking on the role of Football Captain for my whole school when I was in year 10. This meant I overlooked all of football in the school and I had to create videos to help keep all students motivated and learn new skills whilst in lockdown during COVID 19.
Looking ahead to my next step, I am aiming to go to a university that is ranked highly for football and a school that offers great courses in Criminology. I want to be able to study at a very good university while also being able to continue playing football at a high level. I would love to meet new people and hopefully have new teammates that in the future lead to great friendships.
