Personal Statement
Soccer is not just a sport for me – it is my religion. Although I discovered my passion for soccer at the age of four, I stood between the sticks for the first time at the age of six. I have not dropped the gloves ever since.
Being bred in the harsh and raw environment of India, I have developed into a versatile and unconventional goalkeeper. My positioning sense and diving ability make me a reliable final line of defense, whereas my eccentricity and vision make me a rapid first line of attack. I have adapted to the definition of the modern position, and I can be seen sweeping behind my defenders: playing as the ‘11th man’.
I have many athletic achievements, but some moments stand head-and-shoulders above the rest. I have had the honour of representing Delhi/NCR in the Subroto Cup U-17 International Football Tournament – the largest tournament in India for the age group; my high school team won the State Championship to qualify for the tournament. As the captain of the U-17 School team, I lead my team to the North-West Regional Championship title in 2015. Despite having moved to Dubai recently, I am currently playing in the UAE FA U-17 League for my club, Elite FC. In July 2017, I will be attending an invitation-only trial with Reading FC, a top team in the Football League Championship.
Coming from a strong academic background, I believe I possess the genes to succeed in the class room. I am a top student, who constantly strives to improve my grades. In high school, I am known for my work ethic, determination, composure, and collaborative skills.
Leadership is one of my key attributes. As such, I was chosen as House Captain, and lead my House, Oryx to our first ever annual Sports Day title. I especially find it rewarding to help others - whether that be teammates, other classmates, or even strangers. While soccer is my priority, I volunteer in the Digital Leaders program in my school, helping teachers and students with any type of issues with technology. Being gifted with excellent Mathematics skills, I am a prefect for subject in school, and I help junior students with any problems, from basic addition to advanced geometry. I find happiness in seeing a smile on someone’s face when I fix their laptop or they finally grasp a difficult Math concept. Whether I am on the soccer field, in the classroom, or serving others, I always enjoy a winning result!
I believe that playing at an American University will help springboard my career, by providing an array of opportunities, both academically and athletically. Although school-level soccer has given me many victories, I have a hunger for bigger challenges at college. One of the best aspects of playing sports is connecting with a community of athletes. I have learned a lot from my teammates, teachers, and coaches. I am very eager to play soccer in college, and look forward to joining a new community of athletes.
