Personal Statement
Initially, I hated soccer. All the other kids in my kindergarten class would play, while I would sit on the playground. This all changed when I moved to South America at the age of 7. From the age of 7 to the age of 12 I lived in Quito, Ecuador, and from age 12 to current day, I live in La Paz, Bolivia. In South America, soccer is life, and over the 9 years that I have lived there I have been able to see how friendships and communities are developed through soccer. In that sense, soccer has helped me develop my character, and all myself as an overall person. Soccer has also shaped me athletically, from being on the bench most of a season and playing pretty terribly, to being selected by Real Madrid to train with them and their academy. I feel that I am a person who is very persevering, both in the academic and athletic side. When given the opportunity, I give my 110% effort to get the job done, both on the field, and in the classroom.
I am a goalkeeper, meaning that I am the last line of defense, and also the voice on the field. I have been able to communicate effectively with my teammates in crucial moments. I feel that I am quite good in 1v1 situations. Also I find my skills effective in penalties. I also have quite a strong left foot that aids in goal kicks or set pieces.
If I have learned anything about myself during my time in South America, it is that I am able to create connections with others, and turn those connections into friendships through soccer. This trait would help me develop connections to my teammates, and help with the overall team chemistry when playing at the collegiate level.
