Personal Statement
About Me:
I was born in Cyprus, and I have played soccer throughout the county’s whole soccer system, starting from academies in 2007, to a professional level today. I instantly fell in love with this sport, when I kicked the ball for the first time in my backyard and realised how this beautiful sport connects people and can provide opportunities to anyone to make a name for themselves.
I started playing soccer at the age of 4 at Milenko Spoljaric academy , an international player and retired legend in Cypriot football. By being part of that academy, I have learned a wealth of qualities both on the field, where the main focus of the academy was to create technically gifted players and qualities off the field like discipline, respect, team spirit and hard work. All these together, have shaped who I am as a person as well as a soccer player.
At 12 years of age I got a transfer to one of the biggest teams in Cyprus – Apollon FC Limassol who were the champions of Cyprus last season. They play at a European Competitive level against top level teams in Europe in the biggest competitions, including the Champions and Europa League playoffs and the Europa Conference League group stages. In Apollon, I have climbed up the ranks from the Under-13’s all the way up to the Under-19’s and even got several opportunities to train with the first professional men’s team and have game time in friendlies and in pre-season games. In Apollon, I have experienced a lot of players and coaches come and go. I have definitely benefited from every single experience by acquiring knowledge and learning from everyone I have ever played with or have been trained by. From a young age I had to experience the dirty side of the game from being treated unequally, to being disrespected or sitting on the bench but this has only mde me more determined and motivatedto work harder and treat every day as if it is my last day playing soccer.
After many years of hard work, I am now one of the captains in the Under-19’s at Apollon as I stand out for my Leadership, Discipline, Commitment,Relentlessness and Hard Working Qualities
2. University aims in the field of business:
At University, I want to study business as it is something I’ve been drawn to from a young age. I feel that I have an inherited entrepreneurial drive and I want to enhance my knowledge and skills in that field. I am fascinated with the highly dynamic business environment, as well as the way entrepreneurs have to adapt very quickly in order to keep up with this environment. This is similar to the fast decision making a soccer player has to make in modern soccer and if you do not make the right decision, you lose the ball, and your team gets punished.
The same applies to the entrepreneurial world. If you don’t respond correctly to the challenges, your business will fail.
