Personal Statement
Growing up in a soccer passionate family I've always been around a ball since I can remember. I have always aspired to become a professional footballer someday and have since the age of 12 been taking steps to get me closer to that reality. For me, the biggest step I could take to get even closer to my dream right now, is playing at college level in the U.S.
As a player I bring many aspects to the my game which benefit not only myself as a player but also my team mates around me. For example, my composure on the ball in front of my goal creates a sense of safety and trust in me for the team when under high pressure. My leadership, which is an essential part of my game as a central defender, allows me to show my dominance, my spirit on the pitch and have a major positive psychological influence on my team mates. I live off my hard work and hunger of always trying to develop and better myself on the pitch. This makes me a very coachable player, as I am able to take on board criticism and proactively change and perfect my actions on the pitch as well as adapt to the different game plans given to me by a coach and the philosophy of the club rapidly.
Not only am I hard working on the pitch but I also incorporate this attribute and discipline in the classroom; maintaining a high standard and level when it comes to my grades (GPA). In addition, I am also a mentor to younger students in high school who are finding it hard to adapt to their environment, helping them with their behavioural issues and creating a bond that they may not find with another teacher or with anyone else in their lives.
Given the opportunity to move to the U.S to play college football would be the biggest choice I would make in my life so far and is one I would never regret. For me the college set up is an environment which would allow me to thrive not only on the pitch with my football, but also in the classroom; forming a balance between the two major passions in my life, which is something I would not be able to find in the UK. Having said that, I am open to all options in order to find the college that can provide me with the highest level of competitiveness possible in all aspects, both as a player and a student. I hope to be able to make my parents proud through doing the thing I most love and have always been passionate about as well as pursuing education at a higher level whilst doing so.
