Personal Statement
Hi, I’m Luca Mittino.
I’m graduated with the 2024 Class from the American School of Madrid. I am enrolled for fall start at a university in Boston, but without a confirmed roster spot. I will continue to pursue collegiate college soccer as long as I am able to match it with my future academic aspirations.
I was born in Chicago (US citizen) and have spent most of my life overseas, because of my dad’s work. It was in Chicago where I got my first taste of soccer playing with Little Kickers. When I was four years old, we left the US and moved to Tokyo, where I continued playing soccer with Footy Japan and all the international kids. After just two years (and one tsunami) in Japan we moved to Madrid, Spain where I have spent most of my life now.
In Spain I have continuously played soccer (though now it’s futbol) for my school, the American School of Madrid, and played for Chelsea FC one year until they left Madrid due to unknown circumstances. Now an incoming senior, I will have started three full years on the varsity team, after losing a full year of competition due to COVID. Though we are a school team, we play against federated club teams, taking 3rd place in our most recent club season, 1st in the local league, and 1st and 2nd place trophies in international tournaments.
I spent most of last season playing attacking midfield and have experience at L/R outside back. I’m 6’1” and weigh 150lbs.
My playing style is fast and powerful. I use my speed on the sidelines to my team’s advantage and I can score. My favorite thing to do is send the ball into the box for assists. Last season I had 4 goals and 14 assists. I am a fast player with good stamina and the ability to play a full game without being subbed out. I have always been dedicated and have a positive impact on my team at ASM. I very rarely miss a practice, or a game and I always am early to both because I believe getting there right on time is late already.
But I am not only a soccer player. I earned my Eagle Scout ranking with BSA. I volunteer my time in youth education and social service. I am a musician and have played the cello for 7 years and been selected multiple times to represent my school in international competitions. Most recently, I was elected to the Executive Board of our Student Council and am an honors student taking advanced IB classes.
I aspire to continue my soccer career at the university level because of how valuable I feel the discipline required to be successful in sports will help me also with academic discipline. And I really look forward to the American culture of team spirit. I plan to major in engineering or science.
I look forward to discussing where I might be able to help a program succeed.
