Personal Statement
I am a current sophomore at the American School of Madrid. I am a US national but also hold Spanish and British passports. My ambition is to pursue my academic interests at a prestigious university and bring my soccer skills to a high performance environment. The student athlete experience will allow me to continue to grow as a student and a soccer player. I played MLS Next at Met Oval U13 and U14 before moving to Madrid where I play Cadete A in the highly competitive Division de Honor. Academically, I have a strong work ethic and set myself high standards.
I always give everything on the pitch and love to train and compete. My primary position is center back but I have also played six or “pivote". I am comfortable with the ball and enjoy both positions. As a defender my priority is to defend and win my 1v1 duels but my coach trusts my ability to build and create space, dictate play and get involved in attacking phases. I am confident, read the game well, strong in the tackle, fight for the ball and do everything to disrupt the opposition. Spanish soccer is technical but also physical and your anticipation and positioning have to be excellent.
Adapting to a different style of soccer and being the only American on the team has improved me as a player and the center back position gives me a leadership role as I organize the back line and communicate with the goalkeeper. I thrive on defending opposition attacks and breaking the lines by moving the ball quickly to our midfielders and strikers. I am strong in the air and most of my goals come from dead ball situations. Training hard, being competitive and working as a team to win games are my favorite aspects of playing soccer. Ultimately, I would like to play professional soccer and I see being a top student athlete as the best way to reach my goal.
