Personal Statement
Dear coach
Hi, my name is Seungwook Kim. I am 15 years old, class of 2027 and 5ft 10 in, 155 Lbs. Soccer is not just a game for me; it's a passion that has shaped my life. As a midfielder, I bring outstanding dribbling, shooting skills, and a wide vision, which allows me to create opportunities for my team. I am also responsible for transitioning the team from defense to attack, leading the team to victory. My love for the game is not just evident; it's palpable in my every move on the field.
Coaches often compliment my work ethic, as I always put my best effort into practice and match. I am also called an easy player to coach, as I accomplish every instruction given due to my deep understanding of the game. What got me this reputation as a reliable player is my determination and mindset, which I attempt to keep both as a soccer player and a student.
During my career, I have faced multiple obstacles and challenges on the way. The most significant was a medical condition called "Accessory Navicular syndrome." This condition, which caused both physical and mental suffering, was a considerable setback. However, I refused to let it define me. I persevered and focused on improving myself as a soccer player by consistently training, stretching, and maintaining a healthy diet. Looking back, the time I spent pouring everything to reach a goal ultimately made me grow as a better player and a better person who knows the importance of perseverance and consistency, even without the immediate pleasure of visible improvement—these long periods of rehabilitative therapy and training eventually rewarded me with improved muscle strength and height, which allowed me to compete with more prominent players.
Outside the field, I am what you usually call an excellent student. Training and matches can be tiring, but I am a student who is well aware of the importance of academics, which allows me to concentrate and put as much effort into classes as in the fields. I always submit assignments on time and get good grades on most of my submissions and exams. Most importantly, I enjoy school and appreciate the opportunity that I have been given to get an excellent education in a good school being taught by great teachers. Therefore, I intend to attend a college where I can excel as a soccer player while still getting to continue my education with great professors.
Apart from being a student or a soccer player, I love spending time with my friends and family. My most recent hobby is biking with my friends. I also enjoy street soccer even in my free time when I am not required to be on the field, simply because I enjoy playing this sport so much.
My short-term goal is to play soccer at the highest collegiate level, while my long-term goal is to grow both as a soccer player and as someone who can positively impact the world. This goal stemmed from a service expedition to Tanzania, where I had the opportunity to witness the reality of poverty and inequality and attempt to make small changes in the community that I visited. This is why I wish to join a college where I can play soccer at a high level while continuing my studies. I have been an excellent player and played a critical role in boosting the team's overall performance. Most importantly, I have a good work ethic and determination, which will bring great value to the team. Hence, I am sure I am the player you are looking for.
Thank you for reading my profile.
