Dear Coach,
My name is Seungwook Kim, and I am part of the class of 2027 at the International College of Spain. I currently hold a 4.0 GPA. Starting this fall, I will begin the IB Diploma Programme with higher-level courses in Math, Economics, and Spanish. I’m fluent in English, Spanish, and Korean and seek a university that values academic excellence and a strong soccer culture.
As I enter my second year at the U19 level (Juvenil B) in Spain, I’ve embraced a new challenge to continue growing as a player. Recently, I earned a spot on Mexico F.C. S.A.D. – Paracuellos ‘A’, a club that will compete in the Primera División Autonómica Juvenil during the 2025–2026 season. This league is recognized as the third tier of youth soccer in Spain and represents a significant step forward in my development.
In the Madrid region—widely regarded as one of the most competitive areas for youth soccer in Spain—the U19 structure is divided into three national and regional levels. At the top is the División de Honor Juvenil, featuring the U19 “A” teams of elite clubs like Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid. Below that is the Liga Nacional Juvenil, which includes the “B” teams of those same professional clubs. The Primera División Autonómica Juvenil, where I will be competing, is composed of two groups of 18 teams and includes competitive amateur clubs as well as the “C” teams of top-tier professional organizations.
Playing in this environment will allow me to compete regularly against high-level opponents and continue developing my tactical understanding, technical skills, and competitive mindset. I believe this experience—along with my strong work ethic and deep passion for the game—has prepared me well for the challenges and opportunities of collegiate soccer.
I currently attend International College Spain (CEEB Code: 792480) and maintain a 4.0 unweighted GPA. My school uses a 7-point grading scale, where 7 and 6 are equivalent to an A and 5 and 4 to a B. I have consistently earned top marks in all subjects and have attended the school since 2017. My NCAA ID is 2405312487.
Soccer is more than a sport to me—it’s a passion that has shaped my identity. As a midfielder, I bring a combination of strong dribbling, accurate shooting, and wide vision that allows me to create opportunities and lead transitions from defense to attack. I take pride in being the link between lines, helping my team maintain structure and momentum. Every time I step on the field, I aim to reflect the joy and commitment I feel for the game.
Coaches often recognize my work ethic and describe me as a reliable and easy-to-coach player. I attribute this to my deep understanding of the game and my willingness to listen, adapt, and give my full effort, whether in training or matches. My consistency and discipline are values I carry not only on the field but also in the classroom and daily life.
Along my journey, I’ve encountered challenges that tested my resilience, the most significant being a medical condition known as Accessory Navicular Syndrome. The pain and mental toll of this condition were considerable, but I chose not to let it define me. I committed to regular therapy, stretching, and strength training while maintaining a balanced diet. The process was long and demanding, but it eventually rewarded me with increased muscle strength and growth, both physically and mentally. It taught me the value of perseverance, even when results aren’t immediate, and how consistency over time can lead to transformation.
Off the pitch, I strive for excellence as a student. Even with a demanding training and match schedule, I stay focused in the classroom, always submitting assignments on time and performing well on assessments. I genuinely enjoy learning and deeply value the opportunity to study at a school with excellent teachers and a rigorous curriculum. I hope to continue my education at a university where I can grow both as an athlete and a scholar.
Outside of soccer and academics, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family. Recently, one of my favorite activities has been biking around the city with friends. I also often play street soccer in my free time simply because I love the game so much.
My short-term goal is to compete at the highest collegiate level possible. My long-term goal is to continue developing as both a player and a person who can positively impact the world. A service trip to Tanzania made a deep impression on me, opening my eyes to inequality and inspiring me to be someone who contributes meaningfully to his community. This is why I seek a college that will allow me to pursue both soccer and academics at a high level.
I believe I bring not only technical skill and tactical awareness to any team, but also the determination, humility, and mindset necessary to contribute meaningfully. Thank you for taking the time to learn about me.
Sincerely,
Seungwook Kim
