Personal Statement
My name is Gellert Ratkai, 16 years old currently living in the Philippines and studying at the International School of Manila. Both of my parents are Hungarian however I was born in France. To keep it short I have played and been successful at various sport through my life so far. My success is in my passion, focus and natural talent for sports. Out of all the sports I have played I found more success and joy playing football (soccer). However when Covid hit the Philippines was one of the countries to take it in the worst way, therefore I was locked up in my room for a whole year. Even though the restrictions in the Philippines are still very heavy, a couple months ago my team managed to secure a gym at a college when in secret we are able to train futsal. Although being away from training for a year does put me at a disadvantage, I look at it at something that sets me apart from other athletes. Often other athletes will just forget about doing bad in training and more on, because there is always a next opportunity, however for me it is completely different. I learned to be thankful for every drill and every touch of a football I can have, which make me more determined and passionate than anyone to make the most of every second in training. This also applies to my academic carrier as I am constantly asking teacher what I can improve on which looking at my grades, it pays off. Furthermore I aspire to start my own business back in Hungary and will make sure that it becomes successful, but in this personal statement I will not provide a lot of information on that.
As a player, me, my teammates and my coaches would describe me as a very quick, effective (I will put my body on the line every time and not afraid to do so because of my waterpolo background) and a player with stamina for days and days, before covid. However when we started to get back into training, because of my appreciation for the opportunity, I took on a leading role in my team, vocally motivating and constantly communicating with my teammates from the back as in futsal there are only 4 players plus goalie so often I found myself taking the last man role and organizing my team from there, while being a reliable defender so they don’t have to worry about supporting me often. Furthermore futsal is a very movement based game since the field is very small, so it forced me to develop the composure and ability to dribble and pass with both feet in very tight spaces, effectively.
In my opinion I would be the perfect addition to any back line because of my vercitility, willingness to work hard, leadership, as I would make to that I and my teammates provide 110% all the time, and while accepting and providing strategies to win.
