Personal Statement
Hello, my name is Yesung Lee, I am a South Korean high school student who will be graduating in 2025 and I am currently attending an Christian International American School in Nairobi, Kenya. I deeply love this beautiful sport and I have an obsession in striving to be better than I currently am every single day. My biggest strengths come down to my versatility and leadership on the pitch. My primary position is a fullback on either side of the pitch but I have experience as center back and also as a winger on either side of the wings. My versatility has helped me improve on my overall game and I have proved to be a positive asset to wherever the coach needs me. I play in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Nairobi West County Men's league in a team full of boys under 18 and last season we broke the record for having the youngest team age average in the history of the FKF Nairobi West Counties league across all the divisions. I also have been a starter at my varsity football/soccer team since I was a freshman in 9th grade, and this school year as a junior in 11th grade, I became the captain of my varsity team. Every single year of my high school varsity team, I have played the most minutes in each season out of all the players. I am a player that a coach can rely and trust and I give everything I possibly can every single game and training session. I have huge dreams and aspirations and my goal is to give it my all and not have any regrets. My turning point when I decided to set my goal on football was when I asked myself, "will I regret not trying to take football further if I don't give it a shot?" and the answer to that question was a definite yes which has further boosted my discipline and drive that I continue to use every single day when I am out training. I don't know what my path consists of in the future but one thing I am sure of is that I am going to give everything I have and I'm going to strive to be the best player I could possibly be. Even though this path of mine is my main dedication in life, as a devoted Christian my faith is my number 1 in my life and wherever I go, I will carry my faith around with me. Due to my faith and discipline I don't partake in activities that are unhealthy for me or activities that go against my faith, therefore my discipline isn't just displayed on the pitch, it's also visible in my everyday life as I thrive to the best I possibly could be. For me this journey is about me vs. myself. Whether I can beat and be better than the player I was yesterday is the mindset I carry around every single day.
