Personal Statement
Becoming a professional Goalkeeper in soccer has always been my dream. During the past ten years, I have worked hard to prepare for this moment: pursuing my dream at University in the US.
Having participated in the roster of my country’s champion’s men’s team in the top European soccer organization’s qualifier games, UEFA Champions League 2016, and playing for more than 5 years in competitive Division I soccer teams with participation in numerous National and European tournaments while maintain a GPA of 3.75 was not an accident but a result of hard work and endless hours of practice.
It all started when I was 10, in a private soccer academy. At the age of twelve I transferred to a competitive U13 local team, the year after I moved to an even more competitive local team, Anorthosis Nicosia FC U15, where we finished second in the regional league and became champions of the Pancyprian premier league. Also, in the same year I got called for trials from the Cyprus National team. After that season I moved up to the U17 team that participated in the National Division I League. At the age of 16, I transferred to my current team, APOEL FC, which is the most competitive team in the country as the youngest player in the U21 team. We had a great season as we became champions for the third year in a raw and got the Cup of the U21 National Division I League. Now at the age of 17 I am attending my second year at APOEL FC U21 while having the chance to regularly practice with the men’s team of my club. As a result, in the summer of 2016, I was included in the roster of the men’s team at a qualifiers game of the UEFA Champions League as the third goalkeeper.
Now shining the spotlight on my academic background, so far is going pretty well. I started middle-high school at a private British curriculum private school and then at 5th grade along with my transfer to APOEL FC, I transferred to an athletic English school, where I get to have additional soccer practice several times a week in the mornings. With hard work and dedication to my study, I managed to get a great point average of 93%.
Being aware of the hardship I need to go through, all the hard work that is mandatory to put in, the sacrifices and pain, I am still committed to go through all of this to follow my dream to make a career in soccer and in parallel to get good college education.
I am fully aware of the challenges that I will face. In fact, these challenges boost my motivation to even work harder and become the best I can be.
