Personal Statement
Watching Australia qualify for the 2006 World Cup in a penalty shoot-out against Uruguay spurred my passion for soccer. Since then, all I have wanted to do is play soccer. Whenever I play I always push myself to be the best that I can possibly be and I love playing against top-quality strikers because they bring out my best goalkeeping.
I realize that if I want to continue pushing myself then I need to play collegiate soccer. Playing soccer in college will not only push my soccer level but also my academics. In college I will have to manage my time between soccer and academics which is something that I am already effective at because I play three sports a year while also taking the intensive IB diploma program. I know that playing soccer in college is a once in a lifetime opportunity but I am ready for the challenge.
Taking on challenges is also something that characterizes the way I play soccer. I never step down from a challenge and I love taking on better teams because I know it will not only make me better but also my team mates. Whenever I set myself a target I don't stop working at it until it has been achieved not only during games but also in practice. I treat every practice like a game and work as hard as I can for my team because soccer is a team sport so everyone has to work together and we can't just rely on one person.
I am a very coachable and adaptive person and always open to constructive criticism or advice. I always reflect on things said to me because I know that it can help and I apply that in my playing style. My reflexes and diving are the strongest part of goalkeeping and I revel in close quarter situations as well as longer distance shooting. Being 6 foot 5 also gives me a massive advantage in high ball situations like corners or free kicks as well as intimidate opposition because I take up a large space in the goal. I also naturally play better in high pressure situation and I never loose my composure.
