Personal Statement
My name is Gian-Carlo Kama, I am an international student-athlete at New College of Florida.
I am looking forward to transferring as I am willing to join a soccer program with high objectives in order to contribute to their future success by bringing my experience, leadership and diverse background.
I have played soccer at a top level in France with many excellent players who play at the highest level today, and I am confident I have what it takes to play at the next level. Therefore, as of today, my main objective is to pursue my career goals by playing soccer at an intense level as well as pursue my academic goals by earning a degree.
A bit of background on myself:
I am bi-racial (my father is black from the Ivory Coast and my mother is white from Italy but I was born in France). I share this because I believe that apart from being a real team player, I am a very open minded human who is empathetic and who strives to connect with all people.
My college experience so far has been very enriching.
On the one hand, my experience with Soccer has been a bit frustrating. Initially I was not able to travel for team tryouts due to COVID back in my junior and senior year of High School in 2019-2020 and 2020-2021.
Then, I spent 2 years at Quinnipiac University where I was called up to practice with the D1 roster. Unfortunately, I got seriously injured while practicing with the team which forced me to go through surgery and rehabilitation.
Following this, I transferred to New College of Florida after having received offers from several schools, as I believed this opportunity would enable me to reach back my highest level after being injured. I had a satisfying season with 19 goals and 3 assists in 13 games and by being the main leader on the team on and off the field but I am hungry for a lot more.
Furthermore, at Quinnipiac University and here at NCF, I have been well integrated and doing well academically. I have a 3.86 GPA and have been on the Dean's List (Quinnipiac University) for 3 semesters in a row.
Prior to Quinnipiac:
- I have been playing the equivalent of varsity soccer since middle school and was the Central striker for FC Saint Germain, in the Paris region (France). I was recruited by that team in 2016 when playing for my hometown team (Etang St Nom FC), and played there till my senior high school year in 2021.
- Furthermore, I have been recognized several times as a strong team leader and a high performance goal scorer. During my two last seasons for FC Saint Germain, en Laye, I was voted best player by my teammates.
- Over the last few years I have had the opportunity to be invited to very intense and competitive soccer camps including one organized by Chelsea in the UK and another one organized by FC Barcelona in Spain. Throughout my youth career, I was also invited to tryouts by the well known club and academy of ACBB (Athletic Club de Boulogne Billancourt) and also participated in the tryouts to integrate the formation centre (academy) of INF (Institut National de Football) Clairefontaine where I passed several rounds.
I know I can go much further and I do not want to waste more time. I came all the way from France, with unique experience acquired and a diverse background, and today, I can truly say I have what it takes to play soccer at the next level. Furthermore, I am a flexible player who is able to adapt to his team's needs as I can be versatile depending on the team's specific tactics.
Therefore I am ready to transfer at any time to fully exploit my potential by joining a varsity soccer team.
I have high expectations and I know I can truly help my future team pursue high objectives in order to fully succeed. I am craving for an environment where I can get better personally, athletically, and academically.
