Personal Statement
Dear coaches,
Hello, my name is Santiago Garibay Velazco. I'm a mexican 17 year old student that will enter college in the 2021-2022. First of all, I play as a forward, I call myself just a forward because I can play in every offensive position thanks to my versatility and also because I can shoot with both of my legs, actually I can´t remember which of my leg is the dominant because since I started I´ve used both. My soccer history started a little bit laten around when I was 10 years old but since the first year, I had a great progress thanks of how my coaches call me a “fast learner” and through my first year I was already a starter and started to develop my game. Through all my youth I was described with two principal characteristics, an unseen talent and a non-stop competitor, coaches always liked me on their teams because of the uniqueness of my style, I could score in every form and condition, also I was the type of kid that always wanted to win no matter what, and if I lost, I trained harder to come back and win, and thanks to those strenghts I won lots of tournaments and won at least one scoring leader every single year. At the age of 14 I joined the club of my city “Dorados” from Culiacán, Sinaloa, you may know it as the team Maradona coached. And in my first year I´d impress my coaches and became a starter in the playoffs and won the state tournament and earn the chance to participate on the national tournament of “Sector Amateur del fútbol mexicano” where the winners of the state tournament of every state participate to become national champions and we win all the games until the final we´re we tied and lost on a penalty shootout. The next year I was invited to become pro by Dorados, my actual team and also “Xolos” from Tijuana, but I rejected both offers because in México schools can´t support soccer as USA does so I had to choose and I couldn´t leave school because I´ve always been on the head of the class.
Santiago Garibay Velazco.
