Personal Statement
Hello my name is Hong-An (Jasper) Chen and I am a 2027 graduate. Ever since I first set my eyes on a football match I knew I had to try it out. I have been playing soccer since I was 4 and started playing competitively when I was 8. I currently play for Lion City Sailors Academy U17 (A professional team in the Singapore Premier League) as a Winger/Wing-back and this is my 4th year playing for their elite (A) team. We train 5 times a week and have around 13 hours of training per week. I take pride in being dominant in my 1 v 1s, my technical ability, scoring ability, coachable, my understanding of the game and being able to create chances for my team. I am a hard worker and I aim to be one percent better every day.
With Lion City Sailors, I have had training camps at Spain, Netherlands, Malaysia, Cambodia and Thailand and played against some incredible academies including Atlético de Madrid, PSV Eindhoven, Feyenoord Rotterdam, Johor Darul Ta'zim F.C., Chonburi F.C. and BG Pathum United F.C. Not only has it made me a better and more experienced player, it has also broadened my view of the world of soccer and how it can bring people from all around the world together. Since Lion City Sailors aim to develop local players, being a foreigner I have to work harder than others to keep my spot on the elite team.
I currently study the IB program at United World College South East Asia (UWCSEA) and work hard to average a 5.7 out of 7. I aspire to become a Student-Athlete as it shows a clear balance between academics and athletics, and hope to play soccer professionally in the future. I am open to most options and hope to find a college that suits me with the highest level of competition.
