Personal Statement
My name is William Isaksson. I was born in Sweden in 2006 and have dual citizenship in the US through my American mother, with extended family in DC, Chicago and LA. I have played soccer for more than 12 years and my story isn't your usual one. I started as a goalkeeper because when I got to my first game nobody wanted to be play that position. Being the new kid on the team I thought I would give it a go and it turned out I was pretty good. I was the goalkeeper for about two years. When a new coach joined the team and wanted to take it to the next level, I expressed my interest to play outfield, and I have done so ever since. I have worked my way up through the ranks from the third team all the way to the academy team in just 3 years as a wing player.
Two years ago I played for the team IK Frej in the highest U17 division in Sweden. On this team, I traveled across Sweden playing matches. While I enjoyed the experience of traveling across the country, I felt it was important to balance school and soccer so in the end I felt it was better to change teams.
Last year I moved back to my childhood club FC Djursholm, where I played a year up with the U19 in Sweden's second highest division playing 22 of the 24 games last year. This coming season I will continue to play for FC Djursholm with the U19 team and also on the men's team.
Feedback that I am getting from coaches and team members is that I intuitively understand where the ball is going and can place myself there. I am equally good with both feet and able to score goals. I have a strong physical abilities with good stamina and speed allowing me to manage the defensive and offensive wing role. I'm a team player that always puts the team first and I do not like losing.
I am a senior and currently attend Stockholm's Athletic High School. As part of the curriculum we invest 6 hours a week on our respective sports, for me this means covering topics like soccer strategy and tactics but also developing skills like mental training and nutrition for a sustained career as an international top level soccer player. In addition to this, I train 4 days a week with my regular team. In addition, I work as a coach for a team of 12-year olds, who I coach and manage during games.
What would make me a good candidate for your team is that I'm a team player. I always give it all that I have, I want to have a positive impact on my team members and pride myself in giving constructive feedback to my teammates. I give 110% in everything I do. I'm not afraid to make mistakes and to learn from them.
My collegiate goals are to be able to study and get a degree at the same time as I can continue playing the sport I love.
