Personal Statement
I am a keen student and athlete who is committed to achieving the highest of standards that I set for myself, both in the classroom and on the field of play. I am currently studying for my A-Levels in Computer Science, Business and Media Studies, whilst at the same time playing soccer for Millfield School. Millfield have a highly rated soccer program and our schedules are very similar to professional academy programs and top universities. I first started playing Soccer at the age of 6 and soon fell in love with the game and ever since then it has been a large part of my life. I enjoy training and constantly striving to be better. I love the competition and the bonds I am able to make with my teammates. I also love the strategic side of the game and enjoy the mental challenge as much as the physical demands.
Off the field, I am a big sports fan and enjoy watching Soccer, NFL, NBA, Cricket and Golf. A am a bit of a film buff as well and have really become interested in the process of making of films. I am currently making my own short film as part of my Media Studies A-Level. I like to play golf when I have time, usually during school holidays, and I recently attained my PADI Open Water Scuba Diver’s Qualification. During the last summer I worked part-time for an arborist, assisting with the removal and pruning of trees. Whilst the work was physically demanding the thing that I really enjoyed was seeing how a business operates and dealing with customers face-to-face. This experience really underlined my desire to one day go into business myself or run a business.
The UK is the 3rd country in which I have studied and played soccer at a decent level. I spent my early years in Singapore (until aged 10) before moving to Phuket, Thailand where I spent 3 years. I’m now in my 4th year in the UK and I feel well equipped and thoroughly excited for the challenge that studying and playing soccer at a US university would present me. I am an avid learner and look forward to learning from the best coaches and teachers. I am truly determined to succeed in my chosen sport and academic subject(s).
My strengths as a soccer player are my positional awareness and ability to read the game. I am calm under pressure, distribute the ball well and have a solid range of passing. I am a team player who works very hard both on and off the field. Academically, I am goal oriented and enjoy learning new things. I have an active analytical brain with a solid base in mathematics. I would like to take my soccer as far as I possibly can, with my dream being to one day play professionally. At the same time I am eager to excel academically so that I can fulfil my desire to go into business.
