Personal Statement
I am 17 years old, 5'8", and weigh 140 pounds. I am a US citizen living in the Republic of Cyprus. Soccer is my passion, and I began to play organized soccer for the APOEL FC Academy in Nicosia, Cyprus at the age of six. Established in 1936, APOEL is the oldest and largest club in Cyprus (they made it to the Champions League quarter-final in the 2011- 2012 season, when they were eliminated by Real Madrid) and currently in the Champions League group stages playing against power houses such as Barcelona, PSG and Ajax.
At age 10, my APOEL coach moved me to Arsenal FC (Cyprus), where I played for the under 13 team. At the age of 14, I was recruited by Elpida FC Nicosia, a 3rd division semi-professional team playing in the Cyprus Football Association League. I played for both for the under 15 and under 17 teams where I was co-captain. The U-17 team season 2013-2014 finished with a wining record, 20-8-4. There were of 18 regional games and 14 national games and I started in 30 games. For the current season 2014-2015, I was recruited by Ethnicos Latsia F.C., Nicosia to play for the under 21 team. The senior club is in the 3rd division category. Our regular season consist of 26 games that are play every Sunday from September to April 2015, all division leagues are organized by the Cyprus Football Association.
I have attended the same school since pre-reception (The Junior/ Senior School). This is a British school, which follows the UK education system. I am have completed my GCSE's exams with very good results, my GPA is 3.7/4.0. The British high school program is quite similar to the International Baccalaureate in the American system. I have already taken the SAT exams in October and November, I have also completed my registration with the NCAA Eligibility Center and currently awaiting their confirmation. I completed 11th grade and I have the option of graduating in 12th or 13th grade. Since I plan to study in a US university, I intend to graduate in June 2015.
Aside for my love for soccer, I fully recognize the significance and the value of a good education. It has always been my ambition to study at a US university as it offers a well-rounded education, not just in business, which will be my major- but in a range of subjects one can choose as electives.
