Personal Statement
I have been playing football/soccer since I could remember. As soon as I was introduced to a soccer ball I was addicted. Being from London, England (which is renowned for soccer) I would play wherever and whenever. I'm fascinated by the ideology behind US Universities/Colleges and have aspirations of playing college soccer in America and potentially in the MLS or USL. I see college soccer to be a once in a lifetime opportunity and given the opportunity can change my life. It would be fair to say that soccer permeates my life.
In regards to my playing ability, I would say that My large frame and wingspan allows me to cover a large area of the goal and means I am able to save more shots. I am also physical and not afraid of contact, so I aggressively come to catch, parry or punch the ball out of danger. I am also capable of diving high and low to save shots and would say that my best attribute would be my reaction timing.
Moreover, my fitness is of an extremely high standard. One thing, which I've been constantly be praised by many managers and coaches on my ability to save shots which some may say are impossible to save.
I am first team keeper for both my school team (Glenthorne High School) and was at Addiscombe Athletic U21 before moving to Beckenham, where I have been guaranteed to be the first choice keeper. I take pride in playing a U21 1st division league whilst I am one of the youngest players in the division (16 years old) as I feel it has helped accelerate my development
I'd definitely label myself as a leader and always try to lead by example, however, I value my teammates and always try to encourage. I'm a very good trainer and are always looking for ways to constantly improve my performance by staying behind, doing more training in spare time, video analysis. On a whole, I would say that I'm very coachable. and continue to want to be one of the most hard-working recruits (almost like a workhorse).
In School, I'm always present and always wanting to learn and better my education. I must give credit to my parents for helping me develop discipline and an immaculate work-ethic. They have also taught me that studying comes before football/soccer. I would equally be proud and excited to learn in class as well as on the pitch. Studying (Academically) is of a paramount importance.
I want to attend a college where I can push myself in the classroom and on the field. I am open to various options and want to ultimately find the right college match at the highest level of competition possible. I hope to make my parents and myself, especially for what they have done for me. Below is a reference from my High School Coach Barry Wilde.
"Firstly, Christian is dependable, trustworthy and obedient. Always arriving early, Christian participates fully in my training sessions and is always prepared for each practice. SeCONDLY, Christian is a goal-oriented achiever. Christian sets plans for success then implants his plans with hard, quality work. For example, when Christian wanted to improve himself, arriving late into the penalty area, he put the extra effort in training alone after team sessions. His hard work produced success. Christian's level of effort has set the standard for his fellow teammates. Finally, Christian responds to the call of leadership. Christian's thoughtful remarks and comments are well received by the management and coaching team and show great maturity for such a young person, and this must be seen as credible. In short, Christian has earned a hard working, trustworthy individual who strives to excel. He responds with courage when challenged to produce his best."
