Personal Statement
My name is Nicholas Shelburn, and I believe in the beautiful game. At Brisbane Boys' College, I’ve had the privilege of developing my skills within a program that emphasizes both individual talent and team cohesion, partly through our valuable partnership with Celtic FC. This experience has reinforced my belief that skill and ability alone do not set the tone of the game; it’s the team’s connection and unity that win matches.
As a goalkeeper, I understand the importance of communication, trust, and leadership on and off the field. My role between the sticks is more than just making saves; it’s about guiding and organizing the team, ensuring everyone knows their role and positioning, even when the action is far from our goal. I take pride in my ability to lead from the back, providing a strong and reassuring presence for my teammates. My vision of the game allows me to anticipate plays, direct the defense, and initiate attacks, helping to maintain our shape and composure under pressure.
Being part of Brisbane Boys' College and benefiting from the partnership with Celtic FC has afforded me the opportunity to learn from some of the best in the sport. This collaboration has enriched my understanding of the game, taught me the importance of discipline and teamwork, and inspired me to strive for excellence in every match.
Through hard work, dedication, and a passion for the game, I have developed my skills and understanding of soccer, but it is my leadership and commitment to my team that truly define me as a player. I am eager to bring my experience, leadership, and determination to the next level, contributing to a program that values teamwork and excellence.
