Personal Statement

Ever since I was young I played soccer in the streets of my neighborhood in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania with balls made of wrapped up plastic bags or old torn up balls. Even after moving to the US with my mother soccer has always been my passion, I enjoyed playing soccer over the years and have grown to love the game with a dream of playing professionally. I am hoping to go to a college/university where I will be challenged and pushed up to  my limits in order improve my skills, as well as an opportunity to prove myself as a player and play alongside people who have similar goals and as much love for the game as I do. I see college as a chance to meet people who have aspirations similar to mine in life and will push me to be the best that I can be. I want to attend a school where I will be pushed academically and athletically, where I can make my dreams a reality. I am a first generation high school graduate and college student, so I see this as an opportunity to be successful so that I can celebrate my successes with my mom and to one day provide what she never had. This is inspiration for me as an athlete and as student, driving me to forward in pursuit of a successful college career as I pursue my goals and dreams.

  • Munga Eketeb (Camp Coach) TECHINICAL: He is a skillful player who can take people on. He can cut and turn on a dime. He uses lots of body points. He is very hard to contain. TACTICAL: He has great ability to play forward. He tracks back defensively very well. He is a force to be reckon with on the flanks. PHYSICAL: He has a combination of speed and strength. The total package. His explosiveness makes the difference. He needs to improve fitness. PSYCHOLOGICAL: He plays with a lot of composure and flair. He links up well with those around him. He needs to releasee the ball quicker at times. Good job throughout the week.

  • Coach Amaral: Joe possess a lot of great qualities, in the exercises we worked on his first touch seemed to let him down at times and speed of play became a slight factor as we upped the intensity of them. During small sided and game play he was a player with a lot of good ideas. He tended to hold on to the ball a bit longer than necessary but those things can be developed. Biggest adjustment will be speed of play but has a good soccer IQ. Coach Montero: Did not get to work with him as much but liked the way he played in full sided match. Did some good things defensively and looked for open passing lanes. I agree with Coach Amaral in that the speed of play will be something he needs to work on with limiting his touches and playing quicker. Good upside and work rate. Coach Mendel: Good work rate and energy was brought to every activity. Saw him improve throughout the day playing with good competition. Good size, speed and stamina, just needs to play a little simpler. Tried to do too much at times maybe trying to make an impression or maybe habits from high school. However does have a good soccer sense and can easily work and develop quickness of play and first touch.
  • Camp/Event
  • Babson College Elite ID Soccer Camp
  • 7/14/17 to 7/16/17
  • Coach Groves: Very strong athletically and a great engine. Covered a lot of ground throughout the weekend. Look to improve on getting the ball out of feet quicker and decision making in final 3rd. Great competitor and willing to apply coaching.
