Personal Statement

I’ve been playing soccer for just about as long as I could walk. While my parents exposed me to multiple sports, soccer has always been the sport that I return to and love. I live and breathe this game, and I always want it to be a large part of my life. Another component of my life is how much I value hard work, whether it be on the pitch, in the classroom, or any other component of life. I believe that hard work and consistency is what differs between good and great, so I always give my best. I’m determined to be the best version of myself every day and am willing to struggle to get there. I’ve improved tremendously over just these few years, and I am excited to hopefully continue that journey in a college setting while also furthering my knowledge and becoming an overall better person.

  • Evaluated at Showcase Camp - Twin Cities Boys on 05/13/2023 by Coach Etling of Ohio State University Skillset Overview Technical Abilities - 84 / 100 Passing - Creates opportunities for teammates with accurate passes. Rarely over or under hits the ball. Ball Control - Quality first touch in space, and controls the ball under pressure. Tactical Abilities - 87 / 100 Speed Of Thought - Has good ideas and tries to play fast. This will only help future growth. Reading The Game - Does well seeing the first level of pressure and making appropriate decision on the ball. Physical Abilities - 87 / 100 Speed - Great speed overall, in particular when running into space. Will be an important asset going forward. Strength - Did a good job handling challenges and played well shoulder-to-shoulder. Mental Abilities - 89 / 100 Team Player - Great team-first attitude. Was encouraging and supportive to teammates throughout camp. Passion For The Game - Brings energy to every session that was contagious. Great approach to the game! Coach's Comments Sawyer was an amazing teammate as well as a very coachable player who showed his desire to learn and improve during our sessions. He seemed to soak up the coaching which will help him as he continues through his development process. At times his age and lack of experience showed, but he also had moments where he shined. Sawyer is a player that can create a successful playing career. Continuing to dedicate time into development will be critical in his efforts to play at the next level. Strength - Sawyer has great size for a true #9. Adding muscle and strength will help him in many aspects of the game. Hold up play is something I mentioned and adding more strength will make this much easier. Reading the Game - Often times I would see Sawer away from where the play was taking place. As a forward you always have to do be an outlet. Getting over to the strong side of the defense and providing an option is extremely important. Continue to work on reading the game and thinking about where you need to be to help your team build out of the back. Ball Control - Work on the initial touch. Whether a ball is driven at your chest or bouncing on the ground you need to be able to get that first touch down in front of you so that you can either lay it off or go at the back line. The first touch is critical, continued development of that will help improve other aspects of the game.
