My name is Owen Harrison, and I am a class of 2025 defender. I joined my first soccer team when I was four, and there was no looking back. Since then, I have always been involved in soccer. I live in a small college town with limited soccer opportunities. When I joined our local club, I had the good fortune of meeting coach Stanislawski. He is a very experienced and dedicated coach who taught me everything I know about soccer. After my time with him, I wanted to take it to the next level. I decided to play for one of the most popular clubs in St. Louis, St. Louis Scott Gallagher. I made the Elite team during my first year with the Club and soon was asked to join the ECNL-RL team. My teammates and coaches with SLSG help me develop as a player each and every day. I've also had two great seasons of high school soccer, with a varsity starting spot for both years. I have always been a leader on the field. I encourage my teammates and always look for ways we can work together. When they succeed as individuals, it strengthens the team.
My vision on the field, my aggressiveness, and my ball control are some of my greatest strengths. I see opportunities on the field that other players wouldn't. I find gaps between players and I play the ball into open space to create scoring chances. My coach says I see the field like no other. As a defender, I use my strength and aggressiveness in the game to help win 50-50 balls. I am very fierce and drive into space with the ball. I am very disciplined on the ball and have very controlled touches. I am speedy with my movement and can get out of tight spaces quickly.
I have a greater level of commitment and desire than most, because I make a four-hour round trip drive for practice. My family does this three to five times a week, and we get home at midnight on these days. My school attendance is great, and I have to be focused to get all of my school work done. It is a sacrifice, but I wouldn't change it for the world.
I take my school responsibility very seriously. I am enrolled in honors classes and I find ways to get involved in my school community. This year I became a Unified Partner for Special Olympics. I have been paired with athletes who have special needs and I serve as a mentor/coach to them. I get to be involved in sports and also use my talent in a meaningful way. I've made some great relationships, and it's been such a rewarding experience.
It's my dream to play college soccer and I feel like I have been working toward this my whole life. This game is a part of who I am.
