My name is Kevin McDonough, and I am a junior at Ramapo High School. I am excited to become a part of a college culture that inspires scholarships and athletics.
Since I was four years old, I have been playing soccer at different levels and various types of teams. I have discovered that diverse coaching philosophies, soccer levels, and physical abilities have made me a more intelligent soccer player and student.
My high school team was tops in New Jersey. We compiled a 17-1-2 record. As a three-year starter, this was the highlight of my high school career. I received All-State, All-County, and All-League Honors. The best part of our team is the unselfishness of the players. It is a team built on “men for others.” Next year is my senior year, and I think we will be outstanding. I hope to prove that I not only have excellent soccer ability but that I can lead others to success.
My dream is to play at an “elite” academic college and continue to grow as a person. Soccer has been a perfect vehicle for my desire to travel, meet new people, play with great players and learn through failure and success. To combine this vehicle with a high-level academic experience is truly a blessing!
Finally, the most surprising thing is that I do not look like my name. I am Ecuadorian, and my name sounds Irish or Scottish. I am used to the surprised faces when my name is called, and I stand up. This element of surprise makes me understand that anything is possible.
Thank you for reading my personal statement. I am looking forward to learning about your college.
