Sports have always been a major part of my life. Growing up with a dad who was also a three sport athlete, I was encouraged to try a variety of sports. However, I fell in love with the position of goalkeeper when I started in 6th grade. I began to realize that being a goalkeeper is more than making saves, but a vital part of any team, and it is my responsibility to direct and command my team for success.
After getting the starting spot my sophomore year, I would soon face the most challenging obstacle in my sporting career. As I was making a point blank save, the opposing team's striker slid and drove his knee into my face, shattering my cheekbone, orbital bone, and my entire eye socket. It was a season ending injury. 22 titanium screws and 4 metal plates later, I faced a very difficult decision, whether or not I would continue playing sports. I couldn't imagine not playing soccer again. I chose to play basketball in the winter season and soccer the following fall. We had great success my junior year in soccer, coming in second in our league. After this injury, my dedication, love, and passion for being a goalkeeper has only increased, motivating myself to train even harder, knowing that the next game is not always promised.
My goal as a player is to go to a school where I can do my part and bring as much success to a team as possible. Whether that is making saves, distributing, or communicating. I would like to continue playing soccer after high school because I love the competitiveness and intensity of the game of soccer, and want to keep it a major part of my life.
As a student, I want to attend a school where I can learn as much as possible to enable me for success after college. In my eyes, success is defined as using your resources, whatever it may be, to help and benefit as many people as possible.
