My name is Giuseppe Somma and I’ve been playing soccer since I’m 7 years old. For the last 3 years I have been the starting center back for the Ironbound Fever team in Newark, New Jersey and I will graduate in June 2020. My love and respect for the game is tremendous and playing at the next level in college is my next ‘athletic’ goal. Academically, I am undecided on a major, but am very excited to explore different career paths and mapping out my future.
Something that has really influenced my dedication to this game is having had a serious back injury the summer before my HS freshman year. For 4 months, I had to work extremely hard ‘physically & mentally’ to heal and gain my strength and confidence back. That situation taught me that anything worth having is worth fighting for. I am not afraid to put in the time and effort to learn and get better – I will not be outworked.
Some of my soccer strengths are getting up the field on set pieces, excelling in high pressure situations, quick decision making, I am an extremely accurate passer and striker of the ball, I have excellent heading for scoring and passing, I have great lateral movement and can run down players, but I believe my greatest strengths (that work for me not only in soccer but in my life) are my knowledge of the game, how coachable I am and my passion to be better and to inspire others to do so as well.
