I still remember the day my parents drove me to my first recreational soccer practice and how I became fascinated by the game. Throughout my years of playing the sport, I have learned valuable lessons such as the importance of perseverance, work-ethic, and academics.
When I was about seven years old, I encountered the challenge of not playing at the same level as some of my friends. I would constantly feel down and see many of my peers pass by me and tackle me with ease when we played together. However, I put myself to work and practiced constantly. Slowly but surely, I was able to play as well or better than my friends. This experience birthed my never-ending need and drive to excel in everything I do.
Now in high school, my character has only grown. Being an influential midfielder for my high school has brought me more responsibility. However, I managed to work through the additional responsibilities by staying on top of my tasks and by doing going above and beyond for my team. For instance, after practice I would frequently stay behind to work on some weak points in my game. Also, whenever I would see that I wasn’t playing as well as I should, my desire to improve would stick with me until I fixed the issue. I am a player that isn't afraid of working hard until I improve.
Moreover, now as I look back onto elementary and middle school, I realize that academics has been constantly increasing in importance throughout my life. Since I was a toddler my parents have explained to me how crucial school was, which influenced my desire to go to college in the future. However, I never put much thought into it until I realized in seventh grade that without having academic success, I wouldn't be able to advance in soccer levels as effectively. Ever since then I have held academics as equally crucial as soccer.
All in all, I aspire to discover the correct program that fits me in both academics and soccer. Through my experiences, I would clearly be an asset to your program as I would bring my work-ethic and strong mentality everywhere I go.
