Hi, My name is Michael Monte Carlo, Jr. I am a 2023 Center Back attending West Deptford High School in West Deptford, New Jersey. I am currently on the varsity squad for West Deptford High School. This was my third year on the varsity squad. I am also a member of the Leadership Committee for the West Deptford High School Boys Soccer Program. Last year, my soccer program won the South Jersey Group II Championship, which was the highest high school championship that could be won due to the pandemic and the limitations on high school sports. In addition to my high school team, I also play for South Jersey Elite Barons Football Club (SJEB FC). I have played for SJEB FC for 4 years. We won the championship for EDP Summer Classic held in Pittsgrove Township, NJ in June 2021. We just won the EDP Fall Classic in November 2022. It is my goal to continue my soccer career in college as I do have aspirations to play professionally before I start my career as a physician.
I have had a love for soccer since I started at the age of 4. I have had numerous opportunities to learn and improve my soccer game. Prior to high school, I have played on numerous teams: my local town team (West Deptford Soccer Club) from age 4 to my current age where I have been a captain of my team for the past 4 years and was awarded the Most Dedicated Player award in 2019; the Montgomery Select team, where we went to Ireland in 2017 to play top youth teams from Ireland in the Limerick Cup (my team took home the Limerick Silver Platter for our age group); and two EDP programs, Global Premier Soccer (GPS) and SJEB FC (formerly Rush). I have trained over three summers with FC Barcelona Soccer Camp. I was nominated and awarded the BARCA award by the coaches of the camp. The BARCA award is given to one player at the entire camp who demonstrates the BARCA values of humility, effort, ambition, respect and teamwork. I was extremely honored to be awarded this after the week-long camp with over 300 other players in attendance.
I consider myself a total field player. I have excelled at playing striker, center-mid, and attacking-mid on my club team, to center back on my SJEB team and now with my high school, an outside defensive midfielder last year and the center back this year. I believe, due to my strong field awareness, my athleticism, power, strength, control, accuracy and agility, and my leadership skills on the field, that I am an excellent candidate and will be an excellent addition to any soccer program. Due to my attributes listed above, I am a very coachable player; I can quickly adapt to the changing environment of the game, adjusting my skills and applying the instructions provided by my coaching staff to the game to give my team the best opportunity to succeed.
In addition to my success on the soccer field, I strive to work very hard and achieve academic excellence in my studies. I have made honor roll for the 2020-2021 academic year, despite the challenges of being fully virtual for 7 months of the school, due to the pandemic. I continue to maintain honor roll grades in my senior year. I have and am currently taking honors and AP classes, including physics, math-analysis (precalculus), French, and anatomy. Due to my academic excellence and my other extracurricular, leadership, and volunteer activities, I have been inducted into both the National Honor Society and the World Language Honor Society.
Thank you for taking the time to read a little bit about me. I look forward to meeting coaches and learning about their programs, as I am excited to start this next chapter in both my athletic career as a soccer player and my academic career.
Respectfully,
Michael Monte Carlo, Jr.
2023 Center Back
