Personal Statement

Gabriel Maldonado

Soccer has given me the happiest moment of my life. It occurred at a National Club Soccer Tournament in 2017. My U16 team was playing in the U17 division at the Las Vegas Mayors’ Cup Showcase Tournament and there I scored a nice volley goal to win in the Finals. After that tournament, I was told that I should remember that moment and also remember that I have to train even harder to have more of those moments. So I can always be found on the training pitch.

Both of my parents played soccer their whole lives so I grew around this sport and played since I could walk. My parents always stressed that I learn to pass and shoot from anywhere on the pitch equally well with both feet. They also always stressed that I should do well in my Gifted program studies and AP Honors classes. I have also captained my high school team since my freshman year. This team was only able to win one game in my freshman year, but I have led every team I have been on to success. So, I expect to lead my high school team to a better record by the time I finish there. Then I expect to help my college team to future success so that I can make more of those happy moments.
