DESCRIBE YOURSELF See More at http://TommyBiggs.com
Student, Family Person, Soccer, Competitor, Teammate, Loyal and Hard Worker. I would also say that I am Confident, but I really do not like the self-promotion of my website, but I understand that is how the game is played. I like to think of myself as a leader, but that is up to my teammates to decide.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE THE MOST ABOUT SOCCER?
I enjoy, how do I describe this, from the goalie position I view the game as a puzzle. There is a challenge in watching the game from the box and predicting and analyzing the game unfolding in front of me. I like being able to know what is going to happen next in an unpredictable game, it is an awesome feeling. That is one of the mental challenges that I like. Other than that, I really like the competition with my team, developing friendships and relying upon each other.
WHAT ARE THE BIGGEST CHALLENGES/OBSTACLES IN SOCCER THAT YOU HAVE HAD TO OVERCOME? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
Injuries, including two broken arms and a couple of concussions, have been my biggest challenges. I overcame them by not letting them get to me and remaining focused on my training, It also gave appreciation for the ways that I can contribute to the team through leadership while being sidelined. It gave me appreciation for doctors and the importance of my health.
HOW DO YOU BALANCE BEING A GOOD ATHLETE WITH BEING A GOOD STUDENT?
You get the studying in where you can, in the car and in study halls. Sometimes you have to study in the car on the way from school practice to club practice. I had to do this for three years when I had double practice from being on two teams at the same time. In high school, I study in free periods to get my work done before heading to practice or home.
WHEN DID YOU REALIZE THAT YOU WANTED TO PLAY SOCCER IN COLLEGE?
Not really sure when, I just know that I do. Somewhere along the way it went from "I love to play this game" to "I love to play this game and want to keep playing."
