Personal Statement

I have been playing soccer since I was four and have developed into a student of the game.  I love the layers: strategical, tactical, technical, and etiquette of matches.  I want to play collegiately and see soccer as a life-long investment whether playing, coaching, training, or refereeing.

I am very competitive and play for a large southwest Ohio D1 HS - Beavercreek - a perennial regional/state contender.  I have participated in various soccer ID camp’s and with Ohio Soccer’s Olympic Development Program (ODP) most recently making the State Pool.

I am hard-working, humble, honest, loyal, diligent, and responsible.  I lead by example, but can be very demanding and vocal in frame.

I can utilize both feet to pass, shoot, or dribble.  I have good distribution from the back with throws, rolls, kicks, and punts.  I have a high soccer IQ based on excellent HS and club coaching.  My club coach likes how smart I am on the soccer field and the versatility I provide when not in frame to allow others development dime in frame.  I currently play for Kings Hammer in Xenia, OH and coached by Mr. Pat Higgins who has sent players on to college.

I look forward to hearing from you coach.

Ryland W.

Ball seems to stick on a save. Position Or Angle - Great positioning in anticipation for a shot and takes the proper angles. Makes saves look easy. ***Tactical Abilities - 89 / 100 Vision - Field vision is very good. Constantly checking over shoulders on and off ball allows for quick decisions. Reading The Game - Does well seeing the first level of pressure and making appropriate decision on the ball. ***Physical Abilities - 89 / 100 Speed - Great speed overall, in particular when running into space. Will be an important asset going forward. Explosiveness - Great quickness and explosiveness, especially in the first step or two. ***Mental Abilities - 92 / 100 Confidence - Great confidence, didn’t shy away when challenged at camp and played with a sense of urgency. Coachable - Responds well to coaching. Asked good questions and seemed to enjoy the learning process. ***Coach's Comments Great attitude and a pleasure to work with at camp. Ryland brings energy to every session. I loved his work ethic throughout camp and his desire to get better. ***No one is perfect. Continue working on your craft and technical ability. I believe you have a lot of tools to help you have a great college career as a GK. You read the game very well and occasionally communicate. With your vision, I think if you can communicate more often and louder with your backline, you could be a game-changer with your communication alone.***Throughout camp, there were times you slowed down possession and just kicked the ball long. Make sure you are scanning the field early to see where your teammates and opponents are to see if you can switch the field and relieve pressure

Covers good distance and gets extended reach. Position Or Angle - Great positioning in anticipation for a shot and takes the proper angles. Makes saves look easy. *** Tactical Abilities - 92 / 100 Vision - Field vision is very good. Constantly checking over shoulders on and off ball allows for quick decisions. Speed Of Thought - Has good ideas and tries to play fast. This will only help future growth. *** Physical Abilities - 95 / 100 Explosiveness - Great quickness and explosiveness, especially in the first step or two. Strength - Did a good job handling challenges and played well shoulder-to-shoulder. *** Mental Abilities - 95 / 100 Leadership - Excellent job taking charge and leading the team. Great communicator and motivator. Competitiveness - Showed a strong desire to win and seems to enjoy the competition. Keep working hard! *** Coach's Comments *** Ryland did a great job at our camp. He is a very athletic goalkeeper who is strong in the air had quick reaction time to close range shots. He closes space well and in an aggressive manner and many times puts himself in a great position to make key saves. *** Focus on making your decisions sooner. Try to communicate what you want from your defenders as soon as you make the decision of what you want to do in your head. *** Be more aggressive in your decision making. Put yourself in a position to make mistakes and learn from them. Go out for that through ball that's maybe on the edge of your range or challenge for that cross at the PK spot. Continue to push yourself with decision making and allow yourself to learn from it. Try to do a better job of holding balls. At home you can improve this by having a friend kick balls at you or even go to a tennis court and us the rebound wall to volleying shots off it to receive. Holding the ball and keeping possession for your team is important and becomes even more important at the next level.

  • Evaluated at Showcase Camp - Columbus Boys on 05/09/2021 by Coach Moore of Indiana University East Skillset Overview: 1) Technical Abilities - 89 / 100 --Low Balls - Defends low hit balls well. Uses body well and secures the ball on front dives. --Diving - Good technique and strength on diving plays. Covers good distance and gets extended reach. 2) Tactical Abilities - 87 / 100 --Vision - Field vision is very good. Constantly checking over shoulders on and off ball allows for quick decisions. --Reading The Game - Does well seeing the first level of pressure and making appropriate decision on the ball. 3) Physical Abilities - 87 / 100 -- Agility - Showed good agility. Good body positioning and footwork helped you change directions quickly. -- Balance - Seemed to handle the challenges you faced well. Good job staying on your feet and not getting knocked off the ball. 4) Mental Abilities - 89 / 100 --Competitiveness - Showed a strong desire to win and seems to enjoy the competition. Keep working hard! -- Coachable - Responds well to coaching. Asked good questions and seemed to enjoy the learning process. 5) Coach's Comments --Ryland had a great attitude and was great to work with at camp, especially considering the sub-optimal environmental factors. He's already got a solid base of technical ability, and as a 2024 grad, plenty of time still to continue to develop his physical skill-set. He definitely has the potential to become a very solid player that should have plenty of opportunity to continue playing in college. --Communicating to your defenders is incredibly important. It should help them play better, which by extension should make your job easier. It should make their job a little easier, which could allow them to communicate more with players in front of them. It also will give the players around you a sense of confidence in you, which again, will free them to play to their full potential. --Adding strength is going to allow you to be quicker to able to close down players in 1v1 situations, it should help in your explosiveness in diving, allowing you to reach balls that you couldn't previously, and should also help with you vertical and ability to secure crosses. --As a keeper, you're consistently readjusting your position to make sure you're in the correct line to make a save. We spoke real briefly about it Sunday, but make sure that when you're moving prior to a shot, you make sure to get your feet set so you're best able to make the save.
