My name is Christopher Carbone and I am 17 years old, currently attending my junior year of high school at the Mercersburg Academy in Pennsylvania. I have always been very passionate about soccer, and it has played a large part in my life for as long as I can remember, having the opportunity to play it at a high level in games or tournaments spanning much of the East Coast of the United States as well as in England. I have always enjoyed the team aspect of soccer and the sport is something I get great fulfillment in putting my time into and learning more about, whether it be through coaches, teammates, or independent pursuit. I intend to play soccer at a high level in college and aspire to reach the highest level that I can in the sport. I aim to have a large impact on whatever team I play for in the future and will work eagerly to make that a reality.
In playing soccer, I’ve always had a strength in putting the team first and being unselfish on the ball when needed. Through this it has allowed me to develop a strong skill set in passing, distributing the ball, and having the vision to recognize spaces and gaps I can play the ball through to set up scoring opportunities for my teammates. I am also strong in positioning myself to win back possession of the ball for my team, and that often comes as a result of my hustle, speed, and agility off the ball.
I have a great work ethic and always try to put in maximum effort whether it be in games, at practice, or during any form of individual training. I believe that the best players lead by example and through giving all my effort it is not only benefitting myself but also potentially influencing those around me to do the same. I always try to keep my head up high in games and direct and motivate my teammates to do the same whenever we may face a deficit of morale. I believe that the result of a game is only fully set in stone once the final whistle is blown, so regardless of what the score may be during the course of a game, I still put in all my effort and encourage my teammates to do the same until it is finished.
This consistency in effort not only shows in soccer, but also carries over to other aspects of my life, notably in school. Currently, in school I keep a High Honor Roll GPA (90-97) and work diligently to keep my grades up year-round. I feel that playing soccer has had a great correlation with my success in school and believe that it has taught me discipline, time management and what to prioritize to achieve my goals. The type of school I am looking for is one that has high academic standards while also being a school that I could contribute to both on the pitch as well as off it, as I plan to highly prioritize my academics alongside my athletics.
