My name is Jake Van Voorhees and one of my goals is to play collegiate soccer as a goalkeeper. I have just transitioned my club soccer team from Delaware FC (EDP level) to Sporting Delaware Soccer Club (ECNL level). I also play High School soccer at the Varsity level (Avon Grove High School, PA). This year, I was also selected to play at the Olympic Development Program (ODP) Eastern Regional ID camp (unfortunately cancelled due to COVID-19).
I believe I can play at a high level in college because of my skills on the field as well as my work ethic. I have been playing soccer as long as I can remember. In addition to my normal team training, I have also sought more practice in the form of private coaching sessions as well as arriving an hour early to practice to work on my goalkeeper skills with my coach. Despite most of the spring season being cancelled due to COVID-19, I continue to work on my skills every day with a combination of field play, weight training and running.
I am not only dedicated to soccer but also to the classroom. I currently take ¾ of the honors classes that I am eligible for as a sophomore and have maintained good grades year round in all of my courses. I also plan to challenge myself even further next year by taking an Advanced Placement course along with my other core honors classes.
My long term professional goal is to become a physical therapist. Having had a few injuries myself, I came to appreciate how important good physical therapy is in returning athletes to the field as quickly and as safely as possible. I believe I will enjoy the challenge of helping people overcome their physical challenges. Thanks for your consideration.
