Personal Statement

My name is Isaac, I started playing soccer at North River at 3 years old. I tried out for Chattanooga FC Academy at age 8...made the Premier Team and have been on the top team ever since. My Chattanooga Academy FC team has traveled a lot, playing in tournaments and in the NPL league as well. In the fall season of 2020, I started playing on the FC Alliance(Knoxville) 06 ECNL team. I have competed on the Middle School Varsity Football teams at Chattanooga Christian School and Hixson Middle School...at TE, WR, LB as well as Varsity wrestling team, placing 4th in the Chattanooga region tournament(toughest in the state). I also played soccer at both schools, starting on the Varsity Team at CCS as a 6th grader, and was on the all conference soccer team 7th/8th grades as well as one of the team captains both 7th/8th grade years. Now, I want to focus solely on soccer as my ultimate goal is to develop my game allowing me to become the best soccer player that the United States has ever produced. I want to win State Championships with my High School team, multiple National Championships with my college team...and ultimately to become a professional soccer player and to earn the chance to lead my country, the US Mens National team to it's first WORLD CUP CHAMPIONSHIP. My work rate and work ethic in the classroom and on the soccer field will NOT be beat. My dad always tells me to play every game like it could be my last...so I will leave nothing on the field. After my playing career is over I want to be an Athletic Trainer or a Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at the college or professional level, as I want to help young soccer players to reach their true potential and in doing so to boost the U.S.A. to be the best soccer nation in the world.

  • Lander University ID Camp | Sunday May 23, 2021 | Player Evaluation Name: Isaac Smith Graduation Year: 2024 State: TN Position: CM, W, ST Key Strengths: • Decent size and frame • Finds good pockets of space between the lines • Good decision making • Solid end product Key Areas of Opportunity: • Coach Lee Squires and Coach Dale Parker (Lander University): Given the age gap between you and most players, we thought you competed very well and were not overawed by the occasion. Hopefully you found it to be a good introduction and start point for you and the experience should serve you well moving forward. Your movement to find space between the opposition back line and midfield was clever, as you drifted into good pockets to receive the ball. Mobility will be a key area for you to improve, working on your speed, agility, and quickness. Also, look to improve your speed of play. Making quicker decisions on the ball by constantly scanning your surroundings to know what options might be available to you when you receive the ball, will help as you get older. In college, time and space are a lot less so your speed of play needs to be sharp. Similarly, your end product in the final third was productive when you had more time and space. You don’t yet quite have the explosiveness and power to get away from a defender 1v1. If you can develop that, it’ll add to your game. If not, then look to improve game intelligence by finding another way. Here, timing and technical execution is important, and combination play.

I learned a lot to help develop my game. (This is from coach Crippen after the camp) Re: Tennessee Wesleyan University Men's Soccer Program Issac, I'm glad you got to come out and experience the event! You've got a lot of potential and still a fair few years to keep growing and learning. Don't be frustrated as mistakes are just learning tools to help make you better. I was impressed with how well you ran that midfield for your age and you showed zero fear against those older boys. Keep up the good work!
