Benjamin Maw '23 Recruiting Profile

My name is Ben Maw. Thank you for checking my profile. I am a 2023 grad goalkeeper and I play for Sparta United B04/05 Elite 64 (Premier 1 Division) and Mountain Ridge High School (Utah 6A). I was humbled to be chosen as First Team All State by the Deseret News for 5A soccer in Utah as a sophomore, and to Second Team All State for 6A soccer in my junior year. I am playing in the highest division of Utah Youth Soccer with my club team and we are competing in USYS Elite 64 this year as well. I was the starting GK for the Utah Boys 05 ODP team that won the West Regional Championship in Phoenix in January 2022.  

My teammates have elected me as the captain of my club team for the last 7 years and this past year at the high school level. Being a captain is helping me become a better leader, teammate, and friend. It has helped me learn leadership skills and learn to communicate professionally with my coaches, teachers, and teammates. 

Soccer has been a significant and important part of my life so far.  It is making me a better student and leader. It is teaching me to work with and be a part of a team. I have been privileged to play as a result of doing well in other important areas in my life. My parents and I prioritize faith, family, and schoolwork.  In school, I have a goal to maintain a 3.8 GPA or higher and currently sit at 3.85. Working hard to do well in my studies is a big priority for me. I have participated in scouting, church-based youth groups, and peer leadership activities at school. I avoid alcohol, tobacco, and drugs, and take my health seriously.  All of these activities and lifestyle traits have helped me as I am learning leadership, teamwork, goal setting, and prioritizing. All of this has helped me become a better student, player, teammate, and friend. I want to see where soccer will take me, and I am also committed to continuing to do my best in school, getting a degree, and being a productive member of society.  I would love to talk about what I can bring to your program.
