Hi, my name is Zachary Magnuson. I’m in 12th grade at Christchurch boarding school in Virginia. I started playing soccer in 6th grade. Two years ago, in 9th grade, I made my school’s varsity team. I’ve been one of the captains of our team for the past 2 years.
My Athletic Accomplishments:
2019 Menno Classic All Tournament Team
2019 Christchurch School Varsity Soccer Captain
2018 Christchurch School Varsity Soccer Captain
2018 VISAA State Tournament
2017 VISAA State Tournament
2016 VISAA State Tournament
I love playing soccer and my team has become my family. My school is pretty small but packed with talented players. My teammates come from 8 different countries and one plays on the Bermuda national youth team. I’ve learned so much from them and my coaches this year.
I think I'm different from other recruits because I'm quick to learn, very coachable, and very fast. I can win balls in the air against stronger and more prominent players. I’m improving every year, I’m extremely persistent, and I’m quick to adapt.
I currently play outside back but in 8th and 9th grades I played center mid. In 8th grade, I played for my school team and for an Alexandria (VA) Soccer Association rec team. I scored 4 goals and had 7 assists for my rec team and we won 1st place in the U14 league tournament at the end of the fall season.
During winter of 8th grade, I attended a 10-week DC United camp. The camp gave me a chance to play with some really outstanding players and work with professional coaches. When spring soccer season came around, I tried out for the Alexandria Soccer Association U14 travel team. I made the team but decided to stay with my rec team because I really liked my teammates and wanted to continue to play with them.
My soccer highlights this year were playing in the VISAA state tournament (even though we lost in Round 2 to the eventual state champions) and coming in 2nd place in the Jason Soucek tournament hosted by Christchurch. The winner of the Soucek tournament was the VISAA Division 1 state tournament runner-up at the end of the season. My team and I defended against two NSCAA High School AU-Americans in those matches.
I’m really excited to take a leadership role for my Christchurch team in 11th and 12th grades and continuing to improve my skills so I can play competitively in college.
