My name is Tyriq Amos, I am a Junior at Goochland High School and I enjoy playing right back and right wing for the U17 Richmond United US Soccer Academy team.
I have been playing soccer since I was 5 years old, but it wasn’t until I was 13 years old that I experienced a major team loss and amid despair my true passion was born. In 2015, I was selected as a member of Richmond Strikers to represent the United States in the 2015 Tournoi International de Guerledan in Pontivy, France. Playing in this tournament taught me strength, persistence, and perseverance. I have learned that taking some risks, being flexible and focused is critical in being successful in soccer. During my 11 years of playing soccer I have played both offense and defensive positions in sand soccer, indoor Brazilian Futsal, and field which has helped me to observe, anticipate, adjust, assist, and lead both on and off the field. I consider myself a leader and this is evident in how my coach relies on me for team motivation and how my teammates rely on me for guidance.
Like many athletes I have suffered minor injuries, and this sparked my interest for the medical field. I plan to finish my high school term with an improved GPA, enroll in a Pre-Medicine program with interests to be either an Orthopedic or Pediatric Surgeon. I also have interests in servicing my country by joining a branch of the armed forces in a reservist capacity once I graduate from college. Soccer gave me the courage to face the unknown with strategy and hard work. I look forward to continued academic learning and the athletic growth that is in store for me.
