   My Personalized message

By: Darren Roe

Hello my name is Darren James Roe and soccer is my passion. I’m 6,0, 170lbs with blue eyes and brunette hair.  I am 18 years old and I attend South County Secondary School in Lorton, Virginia. I play soccer, football, and basketball for my school. I played JV soccer for my school as a freshman and started every game. I didn’t sit out 1 second of any game the whole season. I am currently on the Varsity team at my high school.

I started off playing soccer when I was 6 years old for SYC house. I made the SYC all-star team both years in house. When I reached 8 years old, I started playing travel soccer for the SYC White Tigers. We received training from Gustavo Donolo who is the director of training for Soccer The Brazilian Way. When we reached u-12 we were division 2 NCSL (National Capital Soccer League).  The next season I started playing for Sulli Hamid, who was the head trainer of Premier AC. I have had several opportunities to receive excellent training from many trainers. I was captain of my travel team, SYC Red Tigers but recently changed to SYC Gunners, for 2 years.

I played for NOVA FC in the Summer/ Fall of 2009 in the SYL (Supper- Youth League) coached by Alex Pinto. (http://supery.uslsoccer.com/home/379962.html)  We went to SYL Nationals in Tampa Bay, Florida in November and ranked 3rd out of 16 teams. The only team we lost to was the team that won Nationals.  Also, I guest played with Olny Arsenal in March of 2009 in the Arlington Invitational and Jefferson Cup. In 2010 I guest played with VSA Heat ’95 in the VA Beach Rush Sun Cup. We won the finals 2-0 and I scored one of the goals.

The team I currently play for is SYA Excel Red '95. We are ranked 4th in the state of Virginia and have beaten the 2nd best team in the state without any problems. My role on the team is to work as hard as I can, for as long as I can at forward or in the midfield. We have competed in many big tournaments such as Jefferson Cup, Disney Showcase, State Cup and some other well known tournaments. Unfortunately we lost to Loudon, the number one team in the state, in the semi-finals of State Cup in a pk shoot out. That next weekend we played in a tournament and easily beat the team that took second in State Cup 6-0. Our team is an excellent group of boys who love to play soccer and I really enjoy playing with my them.

My skill set contains speed, athleticism, and determination.  I am left footed but have a very skilled right foot as well. I am all about team effort, team chemistry, and not individuals. The saying that I use for all sports is “we win as a team and we lose as a team.” Every time I step out on to the pitch I am focused and ready to give everything I have to lead our team to victory. I can play any position to help my team, but defender is my favorite because I like the feeling of seeing the whole pitch. Also, it gives me the incentive to shut down attacks from the opposing team. I am a solid player and I thrive on creating scoring opportunities.

The dream I have had sense I started my carrier as a soccer player was to play for a spirited college team that is well populated and located reasonably close to home. I’m looking for colleges in states like Virginia, Delaware, North Carolina, South Carolina, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. I just love that feeling when you walk out on to the field and fans are screaming with your team’s colors on. As much as I like the part of playing for the team, academics have always come first in my life no matter what. My desired major is Business, Finance, or accounting.

The goals I have set for my self are I would like to play as a freshman maybe even start if at all possible but if I don’t, it wont turn me away from the college. Also, I want my performance to be a positive addition to the team. I love good competition and a tough game with good, clean, hard tackles and every player has the desire to win.

Thanks,
Darren Roe
