Hello my name is Nick Coltrin and I am a proud Senior of Granada High School. My whole life I grew up in the water from at the beach or in the swimming pool I love being in it. So when I was little my parents started having me swim a young age and soon after was put into LAC; a competitive swimming club where I would swim year round until I was about 13. I quit from being burnt out and pursued lacrosse and water polo, until around a year ago I didn't have a path to pursue and decided to start my swimming career again. I wanted to come back to swimming because I have always enjoyed the sport and excel in competitive environments also feeling what new opportunities I could create in becoming a competitive swimmer.
Although my return hasn't been long I have made great progress in the attempt to reach my goal becoming the best swimmer I know I can be. I know through hard work and training I'll be able to improve greatly. I have already dropped my times from summer league, into getting my 50 free from a high 23 to low 22, and that was during the winter when I only had 2 months of training in LAC. I also swam at my first real meet in many years swimming my first 200 free and 100 back getting a time of 1:48 for the free. Due to the Covid-19 outbreak I was only able to swim at one meet and don't have any other official times but nonetheless I have still improved and am still improving with training 6 days a week with doubles twice a week. With full confidence I can say I am faster now, then I was during my first meet and I'm still training hard to get faster.
My focus on becoming a competitive swimmer doesn't hinder my academics or personal life, and I find that I am good at balancing many things at once as seen through my accomplishments. I was able to do swimming, lacrosse and waterpolo last school year while maintaining good grades and not burning myself out. While I was taking AP history and advanced math I found myself not overwhelmed but given more work which I was able to complete. I believe in my abilities to be able put my all into swimming while maintaining my life and grades. Even in my free time I enjoy being active through surfing, (which has become a new passion of mine) to going on hikes and other activities with my friends.
